Lazy Williamsburg mornings are the best – especially because there are so many great little stops for a laid-back breakfast.

To accommodate my vegetarian houseguest, who had an irritating confrontation with bacon-laced French toast the previous evening, I suggested Bliss Café, 191 Bedford Ave., for brunch on Sunday. The café is all vegetarian and vegan.

By the time we moseyed over there around 1 p.m., my friend was ready for lunch. She opted for a hummus wrap that came with a choice of chips or rice. An avid breakfast lover, I couldn’t resist the French toast after I saw it at someone else’s table; a great cup of Joe and French toast is one of my favorite combos. I thought it was kind of strange that the only two milk options were soy milk or whole milk. Since I usually use skim or soy,  it wasn’t a problem, but I was somewhat surprised to see a hip, but earnest health-conscious place like Bliss offer only two options.

My meal consisted of that great cup of coffee and two huge thick slices of French toast with almonds on the outside for a subtle crunch. The substantial slices were topped with strawberries and bananas. I was pretty satisfied after one slice; it was made from this fantastic hearty whole grain bread.

While the service wasn’t too impressive, the servers were good with coffee refills and nice about letting us choose which table we wanted after a couple opened up. (We only waited about 10 minutes in the tiny space.) This is exactly the kind of place I like when I have a free Sunday, and a lot of the dishes were less than or around $10. With MJ and Lady Gaga blaring in the background, the experience was fun and easygoing – a perfect Sunday meal.
